"Death Stranding will disorient players with complex storylines" says Hideo Kojima

During an interview at the Tokyo Game Show 2019, Hideo Kojima advanced some more details about his upcoming game, Death Stranding. The designer states that the game will not be easy to understand and that players will feel quite disoriented.

The story will be complex and will progress slowly, with little explanation at first. Kojima explains that he wants Death Stranding to offer an out-of-the-box experience where players are already in the game "knowing almost everything".

"Death Stranding is not like Terminator or Star Wars but more like an Alien"

According to Kojima, Death Stranding won't soon show everything as a Hollywood sci-fi movie. The player will have little where to lean or find explanations. Kojima adds that linear narratives are easy to do but in a game it turns out to be predictable.

However, Kojima warns that despite the complex history and slow development, players will understand the entire system of Death Stranding, be it combat or mechanics in general.

Kojima compared Death Stranding to the science fiction movie Alien, where the viewer slowly learns what is going on on the Nostromo ship and its crew. Therefore, it seems that Death Stranding will be a game very motivated by its rich history and will have to be played with patience.

Death Stranding is scheduled for release November 8, 2019. The game will be a PlayStation 4 exclusive and is Hideo Kojima's first game since leaving Konami.
