Another E3 without Sony
It could not be. The one that could have been one of those incredible and unforgettable E3 in those who present a new generation of consoles will finally not be. Not at least from Sony, as the company has confirmed that it will miss the Los Angeles fair:
“After an exhaustive evaluation, SIE (Sony Interactive Entertainment) has decided not to participate in E3 2020. We have great respect for ESA as an organization, but we do not believe that the vision of E3 2020 is the right place for what we are focused on this year”.
In short, it seems that Sony does not feel like carrying or presenting their PlayStation 5 on E3, so it will take a different strategy by organizing a series of “global events during 2020 to allow consumers from all over the world to participate.” “Our approach is to make sure fans feel part of the PlayStation family and have access to play their favorite content.”
It sounds like small events and retransmissions with which to release small pills and doses of information until the official launch, although we will see exactly what happens.
More games and less industry
As they count in Games Industry, ESA has always sought to focus its fair towards the industry side, while other companies such as EA or Sony, have preferred to orient their presentations for video game lovers. These different points of view have been the triggers of Sony’s decision, a decision that Nintendo itself made several years ago, opting for the well-known Treehouse events with prerecorded broadcasts on the internet and small interventions at the fair’s stand. That is, nothing big events that revalue E3 itself.
In the end, if things do not change, Microsoft will be alone once again in an E3 that should be a party for video game fans, and that is to receive a new generation of consoles are not seen every year. Now we can only hope what exactly Sony has thought, since an event parallel to the E3 could help many media (displaced to Los Angeles for the E3) to move comfortably and cover the news.
