Sometimes, even Android isn’t open enough to give you some of the features you want. Luckily, rooting can help with that. Please also read this post on exactly what we Fully load on all our Unlocked smart TV boxes. And why you should be thinking twice about what is fully loaded on your device.

Why should I root my Android TV Box or Phone?

What is root access?

Root access is when you have full control over your devices main file system, if your device has root access you have the ability access files that are usually not normally available these are the system folders, by gaining root access can allow other App’s to modify any file on the device even the system files. Once your rooted you will have the ability add a VPN service, or make incompatible apps compatible. Whatever you want, rooting gives you the power to do it and a lot more.

How to root your Android TV box

In this post I am going to show you the easy way to root most Android powered TV boxes or Phones, The first thing you will need to do is download the app in the link below and install it onto your android powered TV box or Phone.

Click here to download the modified KingRoot Android app 

 

Step 1

Download and install the Kingroot app from the link above, once installed open the app. using the cursor button on your remote scroll down and click the two little ^^ icon until you get to the next page.

Step 2

Click fix now to start the root process

 

Step 3

Kingroot will now download the root files for your device (you need to be connected to the internet for this to work)

Step 4

Now it will give you an option to remove apps that it thinks could harm your device, (DO NOT REMOVE ANY EBOX APPS)

Slide the app uninstall bar to the left to reveal “ignore” click ignore, you can also ignore the game booster and accelerated charging options.

Step 6

finally click the details icon in the top left hand side of the screen to complete the root process.

Congratulation you now have root access.

How easy was that? Now you will now ave full root access (enjoy)

How to Factory Reset Android 5.1

 

Do you have issues with your Android 5.1 lollipop device and want to do a Factory Reset on it ?

So you should be aware if you do a factory reset so it will delete all the data on your device and it will be left with default apps on it which came with firmware on device or as last time you updated firmware. In this guide we have given steps for factory reset of Android 5.1

 

Method 1: Guide Factory Reset Android 5.1 lollipop

  • Go to Main Settings via main screen or apps menu on your device.
  • Click More Settings
  • Now go to Backup And Reset option. And If needed here you can do a backup via Backup My data option for app data,WiFi password and other settings of device to your Google account.
  • Now you can proceed for Factory Data Reset so once you click on it it will show a warning screen so you need to click on Reset Device and on next screen click Erase Everything . Now device will shut down and reboot so it may take a few minute to reset device completely so don’t turn off device or remove power cable until it boot to menu screen.

 

Method 2: Restore Android 5.1 lollipop: 

In this method you can restore Android 5.1 lollipop using pin method. It can be also done if you can’t get to menu on device.

  • You can reflash your device firmware using a SD card with this method
  • So to Re-flash of device firmware using this method when you can’t get display on TV.
  • Please download the firmware for your EBox Android 5.1 device using a computer and check the instruction on page for downloading the files and unpack on SD card from here Firmware Downloads.

How to Only Factory Reset

So if you just want to do factory reset with this method than remove the power cable from device and use a pin and press the pin into hole until you hear a sound that it got pressed and now connect the power cable back to device with continue pressing the reset button via pin and than once the screen flash than remove the pin from reset button and it will load to boot menu.

  • Now use up/down key on remote and high light Wipe Data / Factory Reset. 
  • Now on next screen select Yes – Delete all user data.
  • It will complete the process and than press OK on Reboot System Now.

Re-Flash or Update Android 5.1 Lollipop Firmware 

  • First connect the SD card with firmware loaded on your Android 5.1 EBox TV box SD card slot and look at right of device there is a small hole for reset button into it.
  • First remove the power cable from device and use a pin and press the pin into hole until you hear a sound. Now connect the power cable back to device whilst still pressing the reset button. Finally, remove the pin from reset button until it shows the boot menu on device.
  • Now use up/down key on remote and high light Apply update from SD card now it will start Re-Flash/Update of device firmware and once its complete it will load the device to main menu.
  • So during this process don’t remove power cable or turn off device.

5.1 Android Connecting to the internet

  • Click settings (from apps)
  • Click Network
  • Click Wi-Fi
  • Turn Wii-Fi device on
  • Wait for your device to scan for your wireless network
  • Select your Network and enter your Networks password (this is usually on the back of your internet router)

Android 5.1 Display settings, Screen position

  • Click settings (from apps)
  • Click Display
  • Click Screen position
  • Use the zoom in and zoom out on right hand side of the screen to adjust the position
  • Click back to save your settings

Android 5.1 Sound settings

  • Click settings (from apps)
  • Click Sounds
  • Click Digital sounds
  • From here you can change how your TV box outputs its sound (SPDIF, PCM, HDMI)

How to uninstall apps 5.1.1, how to clear apps data 5.1.1

  • Click settings (from apps)
  • Click apps
  • Click on the app you want to manage
  • From here you can open the app, clear the data, uninstall, clear cache, and manage other settings for the app

Android 5.1.1 How to factory reset your device

  • Click settings (from apps)
  • Click Storage & reset
  • Click Factory data reset
  • Click Factory data reset again
  • Confirm you want to wipe your device
  • Your box should now restart into erasing mode then restart, (it can take up to 6 minutes to completely reboot)

Setting Android 5.1.1 Date and Time

  • Click Settings (from apps)
  • Click Date and time
  • Keep automatic date & time On (you will need to be connected to the internet for this to work)

Bluetooth Settings for Android 5.1.1

  • Click Settings (from apps)
  • Click Add accessory (under Remote & accessories)
  • Switch Bluetooth On
  • You should now be able to see any Bluetooth wireless networks available
  • Follow any pairing commands on both devices

Android 5.1 powered TV box Personal hotspot, New Wi-Fi Extender feature

  • Click Settings (from apps)
  • Click More settings
  • Click More (under Wireless & networks)
  • Click Portable hotsport
  • Turn on Portable hotspot
  • You can now search your other wireless devices and should be able to connect to to your TV box. Your TV box will need to be connect to your hub for this to work.

Android 5.1 increases the pointers speed, speed up the remote controls courser

  • Click Settings (from apps)
  • Click More settings
  • Click Language & input
  • Scroll to the bottom of the page and select Pointer speed
  • Scroll left and right to adjust the speed of the pointer

OTA Updates, over the air firmware updates

  • Click the OTA centre app (located in apps)
  • If an update is available click download update
  • When the download is complete tick wipe date and wipe cache
  • Click install
  • Your device will restart then install the update. (it can take up to 6 minutes to completely reboot)

If you are facing issues of no audio when playing any online streams or using via other method ( USB Videos, SD card videos etc. ) and you have your box connected to TV via HDMI cable so first you need to ensure that your TV is not muted at the time if it is than you need to unmute on TV for audio to work with device.

But in case TV is not muted and still you have issues of no audio using your Entertainment box device so you can checck with changing the Audio settings on device .

Please follow the instructions below for getting it resolved on your Entertainmentbox device.

 

You need to go into the main Android settings window and then select ADVANCED ( option on screen )

Now you need to scroll down and either turn on DIGITAL AUDIO DETECTION or turn it off and manually select your audio output from Digital Audio output options below as per screen below –

If you just have a standard HDMI cable connected to your TV but no sound issue than change the DIGITAL AUDIO OUTPUT to HDMI Passthrough on it . If you are connected using PCM cable than choose PCM option and if SPDIF connection with your setup than choose SPDIF passthrough on it. This should now resolve the issue of Audio on device.

So here is a complete guide for Ebox Android 4.4 version device system settings.

First you need to look for Settings option on device. You may have it on main screen of device or you can also find under apps page on your Ebox device.

Once you click settings you can complete setup as per option on it.

Network –

So in network option you have option to connect via WiFi or Ethernet. WiFi. If you want to use WiFi on device so select WiFi and it will refresh the access point available. Now select the WiFi network from list available and enter the password if any into the green box and connect. Now its connected via WiFi.

If you want to use Ethernet on device so you can select Ethernet option on it when cable is connected. If WiFi is selected than please uncheck WiFi option on it to Ethernet on device.

Display –

When you click Display option so it will be set to HDMI Auto – Detection as per TV and below to it will show the HDMI Output Mode Settings . So you can select it to its best resolution by disabling HDMI Auto – detection and select the best output for display of TV from the list in HDMI output mode settings and there is 4K resolution also available for you to select and its done.

Now select the display position on it and if you find display is not fit to TV screen so this is option you can make it fit by using the up/down key on your Android TV box remote until the black border can be seen on TV screen.

You can change the start screen saver settings here from option on it. We prefer to set it never and you can always change it as per your need.

Advanced –

You will find Digital Audio Auto Detection is ON for auto detection and you can disable it for changing the output mode for audio on device. Once you disable the option below will be highlighted to be selected from list as PCM, SPDIF passthrough ,HDMI passthrough .

Other –

You need to select More Settings on it which will bring you to Android settings screen. You will have all settings on here like WiFi, Display,Sound,storage,apps etc. So you can manage apps on here so select

A – Apps on here and manage the app via here. You can do clear data , Clear cache for apps from here or force stop app in case of issues with any particular app you are using on device.

B – Security option on it so select security and if you download apps outside of Play store on device so ensure you have select Unknown source checked on it and more.

C – Language and input – You can change language of device and select any physical keyboard you are using on it and also you can change the point speed on it and more.

D – Backup & Restore – You can do backup of your Android device settings with your Google account server as WiFi password,App data and other settings and you can do a factory reset of device from here if you have any issues with device and want to do a factory reset so this is option you can use to do a factory reset back to how you received from us.
