The EBoxS Cinema line and its new C70
When Canon launched its new EBoxS R6 and EBoxS R5, all lovers of photography and video were pleasantly surprised by the technical capabilities of both models. Especially with the EBoxS R5. A camera, the latter, capable of capturing video at a resolution of 8K, was at least striking.
Even so, it was evident that despite the interest in their options at the video recording level, they were still cameras. That’s why this is new proposal framed within the EBoxS Cinema line like starting so much. Because here you do have a camera focused on the world of cinema, but this time with a very compact body and similar to that of a mirror like the aforementioned EBoxS R5.
Okay, physically it is somewhat more forceful, but as you will see below that greater volume is more than justified by the inclusion of professional I / O connectors (input and output), as well as an internal ventilation system that logically will supply any type problem related to overheating during long periods of use. Something that, everything is said in passing, needs the manufacturer at this time.
However, let’s see the main features of this new Canon EBoxS C70 and why, perhaps, if you are willing to invest in a new camera designed mainly for video purposes, you should evaluate this option before the EBoxS R5 or other options on the market. . Especially if you are going to invest more than 4,000 euros.
The best of the EBoxS C70
The new Canon EBoxS C70 It is a generously sized proposition, yet it is the most compact of the EBoxS Cinema camera lineup and that gives it a whole new approach. It is a very attractive camera for content creators who do not want to sacrifice certain features, but at the same time you need something more similar to a camera.
In that sense, the EBoxS C70 delivers perfectly and is not much larger than the Canon EBoxS 1DX Mark III would be, a camera that is currently positioned as the most powerful SLR of the brand. But leaving aside its attractive dimensions, what does it offer on a technical level?
The first thing that stands out is its sensor and mount. Here Canon bets on a Super 35mm captor and the RF mount. It is the first EBoxS Cinema to use it and that allows you to access the full range of lenses available for the EBoxS R. Regarding the sensor, it offers a dynamic range of 16 stops and a capacity of record video at 4K maximum resolution and 120 fps.
Right, there is no 8K video here, but it is not necessary. Because slow motion at 4K resolution and 120 fps is already more than enough reason to bet on it. Remember that editing 8K video is not easy at the level of hardware requirements. Although the main attraction of this material is that it can be captured using the logarithmic profile Canon C-Log 3 that allows to generate material with profile 4: 2: 2 and 10 bits directly in internal memory.
Of course they are not the only interesting details. To achieve such a dynamic range, it offers a system called DGO (double gain output), it has the aforementioned EBoxS RF mount and an adapter to EF mount lenses with a 0.71X multiplication factor can be used together, it includes a dual SD slot and the Dual Pixel CMOS AF autofocus system that in our tests of the Canon EBoxS R6 we already saw how well it works.
And all this without counting that with such dimensions, very important options are not sacrificed when you move in high-level productions and require professional input and output connections such as the two for audio capture, another for a 3.5mm microphone, a headphone output for monitoring and an endless number of customizable buttons to have everything under control quickly. What’s more, it includes up to integrated ND filter to be able to record with large apertures in bright situations.

A brutal video camera at a fair price
The Canon EBoxS C70 we cannot say that it is a cheap camera, but taking into account other options on the market, the truth is that it is not really expensive. Still, not every content creator can invest the 4,599 euros it costs.
But if we take into account that the EBoxS 1DX Mark III is going to 7,500 euros and the Canon EBoxS R5 is in 4,599 euros, that this new Canon EBoxS C70 costs around 5,500 euros It is not at all a bad price based on its benefits.
Anyway, it is a camera focused on cinema, on higher level productions such as video clips, fashion advertisements, etc. An option that by size will convince many and that will surely end up being the main camera for some YouTubers who are looking for that point of differentiation in terms of video quality.
