Apple swaps Samsung for BOE for iPhone 13 screens

Everything indicates that BOE will be the main supplier of OLED screens for the Apple iPhone 13 family, leaving Samsung out of the next generation of smartphones from Cupertino. The Chinese company will be working with partner GIS to develop panels for the Cupertino equipment that will be launched this year.

In 2020 BOE was advanced as a supplier of screens for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro, but the partnership ended up not bearing fruit due to production constraints. It seems that Apple is determined to revive the relationship and escape the prices imposed by rival Samsung.

Apple wants to escape Samsung’s high prices

iPhone 13 BOE

In the past, BOE assumed it was difficult to carry out quality checks on its screens, with some rumors indicating that it would have even failed to examine the first manufactured units.

At the time, Apple determined that it would be best not to take a risk and buy OLED panels from other brands, even if that would result in higher costs.

At the time, however, there was a promise to reevaluate the possibility of BOE being chosen again to manufacture screens for future families of iPhones.

It then appears that the company has overcome some of its difficulties and that Apple will entrust them with one of the most important areas of their smartphones.

Samsung was Apple’s partner for the iPhone 12 Pro

The difficulties experienced by BOE last year forced Apple to turn to Samsung. The South Korean brand was even the main supplier of OLED screens for the iPhone 12 Pro models.

Now Cupertino seems to believe that the quality of BOE’s offer is very close to what the biggest South Korean manufacturers can offer.

Apple will be working on more complex screens for the iPhone 13, especially on the Pro versions that are expected to offer varying refresh rates between 60 and 120 Hz.

Even so, American technology will be willing to risk working together with a lesser-known company in order to optimize revenues.
