Apple confirmed on Tuesday it has acquired a startup of autonomous cars. The company is called Drive.ai, and has closed its doors for the past two weeks. Apple has hired dozens of engineers from this company for software and hardware.
The apple company thus demonstrates that it has not yet given up having its own self-contained electric vehicle. Hired employees come to the data, systems, and software engineering departments. According to the San Francisco Chronicle website, many of these tell Linkedin to go to work on “special projects”.
The purchase was confirmed by an Apple spokesman for Axios. The company was valued at about $ 200 million two years ago, but sources say Apple will have paid less than Drive.ai's $ 77 million of venture capital.
The importance of this business
There is no new desire for Apple to launch a standalone vehicle. With the announced purchase of a specialist car company, we are confident that the company has not given up on its aspirations to introduce a self-contained vehicle.
Drive.ai has been looking for a buyer since February, and after talking to several interested parties, Apple turned out to be the winner. Drive.ai employees thus join Apple's ranks in the autonomous vehicle business.
The Titan Project is the electric car project that Apple has been developing, but about which we have had very few developments. By acquiring Drive.ai, this project certainly gets new life.
