The recent Coronavirus outbreak has quarantined part of China and has alarmed the entire globe. There are more and more cases registered around the globe and fears of contamination are calling into question one of the biggest technology events in the world.
After LG, ZTE and Ericsson gave up their participation in MWC 2020, now it is Nvidia’s turn to make the same decision. Like the previous ones, the American company justifies this decision with the Coronavirus outbreak.
Nvidia cites health concerns for its employees to cancel its participation in this year’s Mobile World Congress. For the North American company, the well-being of its staff and customers outweighs everything else.
Nvidia would talk about Artificial Intelligence and 5G at the event
These would be the main technological areas that the company would address at the Spanish event. It is not clear whether Nvidia will cancel its ads altogether or whether it can do so through an online conference.
This has been the path followed by several companies in the industry. The option for online events avoids crowds of people, continuing to serve the purpose of presenting their new products to the world.
Will there be conditions for holding the MWC this year?
Admittedly, Nvidia is not one of the biggest names in the Spanish event, but it is further proof that companies are afraid to travel to Barcelona just to present new products. If more companies continue to announce their withdrawal from this event, how long will it continue to be held?
The GSMA, responsible for organizing the Mobile World Congress, has already confirmed that it maintains its plans for the event. To this end, the organization will take several measures to ensure the safety of all who go to Barcelona.
But the question is whether people still want to travel to Barcelona for the event. At a time when there are already 722 fatalities from the Coronavirus, major events, with large conglomerates of people, are something to avoid.
