According to renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple will launch the second generation of its AirPods Pro in 2022. This will be the third version of Apple’s True Wireless headsets. AirPods remain the brand’s best-selling accessories and the world’s best-selling earphones in the category.
Kuo says the third version of the AirPods will go into mass production at the end of 2021, with a launch date scheduled for early 2022. However, Digitimes disagrees, stating that the AirPods will be launched later this year and will be assembled in Vietnam, at one of Apple’s factories.
“Lite” AirPods can be a reality
Ming-Chi Kuo also mentioned the possibility that third generation AirPods have the same format as the Pro model, but without noise cancellation. These would be a “Lite” version of the AirPods, maintaining the design but cutting back on some features, as well as its price.
On the other hand, future AirPods can simply be an upgrade to the current version. It is said that the next AirPods may contain health functions such as step count, heart rate monitor, head movement detection and others. These functions were supposed to combine with the Apple Watch.
AirPods continue to dominate the True Wireless market
There are many True Wireless headsets on the market, from various brands. However, so far nothing beats AirPods, which continue to hold about 60% of the revenue in the True Wireless headset market.
