3 points where Apple’s iOS beats Android in 2021

The Android and iOS platforms offer different approaches to their smartphones, each with its strengths and without necessarily having a better system than the other. However, there are aspects where Apple’s iOS outperforms Android.

This format will be replicated in the future with the strengths of Android over iOS, but now we will showcase Apple’s highlights about Google in its approach to smartphones and mobile devices. There are three major differentiating points.

1. Mature Apple product ecosystem

Apple iOS ecosystem

Apple has built one of the richest and most appealing product ecosystems, ensuring that all of its releases operate seamlessly in conjunction with the previous ones. Be it the iPhone with AirPods, or the iOS smartphone with the Apple Watch.

The same can be said for Apple computers, from MacBook to iMac and even Mac mini. Not only is there the same line that guides the look and many of the functions of the macOS operating system, familiar to anyone using the Apple phone, the synchronization and integration of services between all these platforms is without problems. The buzzword “just works” is applied.

The Apple ecosystem is unique and restrictive. It takes a considerable investment to enter it, and even greater to enjoy it from the tablet, watch, phone, computer, headphones, etc. A reality equally applicable to its services.

Currently, the iPhone, iPad and Mac computers are authentic platforms for disseminating Apple services, an increasingly important aspect of its ecosystem. And, once inside this “world”, it becomes difficult to ignore its elegance and simplicity.

Uniformity at Apple vs diversity at Google

The Android platform, made up of an indeterminate number of brands and manufacturers, is naturally heterogeneous. That is, it becomes difficult to find a common thread that characterizes an Android ecosystem, which is markedly fragmented.

Diversity has its benefits, but it raises concerns such as the compatibility of applications and services between devices of different brands. This is where the Google platform shows the biggest differences from its rival Apple.

2. iOS vs Android system updates

One of the biggest problems with the Android operating system is its fragmentation. Something that also translates into the discrepancy between the policy of updates in the different manufacturers, and even within the same brand, there are notable differences in the policy and timing of updates to reach the different product lines.

In other words, the top Android smartphone line is usually the first to be updated. This is in contradiction to the entry-level and mid-range smartphone line, the cheapest and most popular smartphones.

While Apple firmly controls the date and distribution of updates to its iPhone, in the Android universe Google does not have the authority to do so. The exception is the Pixel smartphone line, from Google itself with pure Android.

The importance of iOS and Android updates to the user

System software updates bring new features to products, in addition to enhancing existing ones. They also have the ability to improve the safety of these products, in addition to protecting the investment made by the consumer.

This point is not expected to change in the near future. To do this, Google would have to take a firm stance towards other manufacturers that use the Android operating system, this could not be further from happening.

Finally, we can also point out the average 5 years of updates provided by Apple to their iPhone and an extended period of support for their computers and other products. In the Android “world” this value is around 2 to 3 years.

3. The second-hand market is dominated by the Apple iPhone

Apple iPhone retains more of its value in the second-hand market.

The resale value of Apple products is consistently higher. In other words, if you want to sell your iPhone second-hand, it is likely that it will retain its value after a year and, as such, be a better investment.

In practice, it is easier to sell an iPhone at a good price, even one to two years after its purchase as new. The same can no longer be said of Android mobile devices, although some manufacturers retain the value of products better than others.

Samsung is one of the good examples, with its products retaining more of their value after 6 months to a year. Still, according to a study done in the United States of America, Samsung smartphones devalue up to 50% in six months. Apple iPhone products may depreciate up to 43% in the same period.

Devaluation is less pronounced on Apple iPhone

So, if you plan to sell your mobile device in the near future, buying an iPhone is advised. Apple products are easily sold second-hand and you will recover a large part of the investment. The same cannot be said of Android smartphones.

The devaluation affects both platforms, but is felt with less impact on the iOS side. There is also a greater ecosystem and offer of accessories for Apple mobile phones.
